Protein contains the building blocks to DNA synthesis which helps us regenerate and renew. As humans, we require all 20 amino acids, of which 8 are what we call essential, meaning, we must ingest via animal or plant products. Protein is especially important for active individuals as well as people who have a consistent workout regimen. Protein allows one to maximize their pre and post training and it allows the body to repair the stresses of the exercise. CrossFitters should seriously consider incorporating more protein into their diet because of the nature of the regimen. Each WOD contains a blend of cardio, interval, and weight training that induce muscle stress both in our fast twitch & slow twitch muscle fibers. So why not feed our bodies the appropriate substrates and maximize each of our work out?
